The QuickTrace® M-8000 cold vapor atomic fluorescence (CVAFS) mercury analyzer is ideal for quantifying ultra-trace to sub-mg/l mercury concentrations. With pre-concentration (gold amalgamation), the ultra-trace detection limit of <0.05 ng/L (ppt) is easily achieved. The NEN-EN-ISO 12846 requires this pre-concentration. The QuickTrace® M-8000 is also versatile enough to analyze samples >400 μg/L (ppb) in a research or industrial environment without dilution.
Depending on the requirements of your laboratory, the QuickTrace® M-8000 mercury analyzer supports three different measurement methods:
Mode 1: Cold Vapor Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry (CVAFS)
Mode 2: Cold Vapor Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry “Single Gold Trap Amalgamation” (CVAFS-SGTA)
Mode 3: Cold Vapor Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry “Double Gold Trap Amalgamation” (CVAFS-DGTA)
The methods are selected from the software without needing to change anything in the “hardware” configuration. It is important that the system can easily switch between ultra-trace and low mg/L analysis through the software by simply choosing a different method. This innovation can prevent costly errors and save time from having to program other conditions.
Teledyne Leeman Labs also uses cost-saving features during the desorption of the gold amalgamator, such as stopping the flow rinse station and slowing down the SnCl2 flow. These innovative features can significantly save a lab money by reducing the use of reagents and saving on chemical waste costs. With the proven cold vapor atomic fluorescence (CVAFS) technique in combination with the multi-tasking Windows®-based QuickTrace® software package, the QuickTrace® M-8000 is one of the most stable reliable fluorescence analyzers available today.
For ultra-trace analysis, we recommend our sample changer enclosure to protect the samples from certain errors such as dust particles. This enclosure also protects your investment from the aggressive acidic gases that are normally present in and around digested samples.
Performance
Very good short and long term stability are standard features of the QuickTrace® M-8000 CVAF analyzer. Instrument detection limits of 0.02 ng/L are typical for the QuickTrace® M-8000 “gold trap” methods where less than 25 ml of sample is used. Instrument detection limits of < 0.1 ng/L without gold amalgamation are consistently achieved with a sample volume of less than 10 ml.
